I was driving in the car and listening to the radio on full blast, when the DJ announced that he was about to play a track that every club-going girl can relate to. Thinking it was going to be some catchy Pitbull song or an anthemic Beyonce tune, I was eager to hear what song it’d be. Much to my surprise, it was a house song that is completely centered around the monologue of a perfectly pompous girl who’s out at the club taking selfies.
“I only got 10 likes in the past 5 minutes, do you think I should take it down?”
What’s great about this song is that it is so realistic. Every single thing that the girl on the track says is freakishly similar to (if not a word-for-word replica of) conversations that I have had or overheard since selfies and Instagram have taken over the social media world.
“Is that guy sleeping over there? Yeah, the one next to the girl with no shoes on? That’s so ratchet.”
“#SELFIE” is the genius work of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, and together they form The Chainsmokers. The talented duo has created a lot of club mixes in the past, but this newest brainchild is Internet (and radio) gold. It is currently going viral, and I can’t stop listening to it.
“That girl’s a fake model; she definitely bought all of her Instagram followers.”
“#SELFIE” is starting to get major radio airplay, and its video has over 3 million views on YouTube. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this song continues to grow on Top 40 radio and in clubs across the country. If it happened to “What Does The Fox Say” and “Gangnam Style,” “#SELFIE can do it too. It’s not a traditional song, but it is funny, catchy, and can get you dancing when the beats hit. Check it out below and let us know what you think!
